Damon Seils is the Board of Aldermen's liaison to the Planning Board and the Carrboro representative to the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization Board, the Chapel Hill Transit Partners Committee, the North-South Corridor Study Policy Committee, the Orange County Partnership to End Homelessness, and the Joint Orange-Chatham Community Action Board of Directors. Before his election to the Board of Aldermen, he served as the chair of the Planning Board, as a member of the Greenways Commission, and as the chair of the Orange County Human Relations Commission. In his professional life, he works in the medical school at Duke University, where he manages a team of health services researchers who study the quality, costs, and ethics of health care delivery. Alderman Seils is also a longtime leader in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community at Duke, where he works with students, employees, alumni/ae, and administrators to promote equity and inclusion for gender and sexual minority communities. A native of Texas, Alderman Seils was born in the Rio Grande Valley and was raised in Austin. He attended college and graduate school in Washington, DC, before moving to Carrboro.
