On May 9, Officer Karissa Kimrey was honored with an Official Commendation for her work on an incident last month. Present was Chief Chris Atack and our new Town Manager Patrice Toney. Join us in congratulating Officer Kimrey for a job well done!
The details of the commendation:
“On April 5, 2024, at 5:30pm, the Carrboro Police Department responded to a kidnapping and attempted sexual assault in the 200-block of West Weaver St. Officers established a perimeter and attempted to locate the suspect. Officer Karissa Kimery responded to the area to assist with her K-9. Trusting her instincts, Officer Kimrey remained in the area of the initial call after the original search area had been expanded. She located someone matching the suspect’s description and detained him to investigate. Officer Kimrey’s actions allowed a show-up to be conducted with the assault survivor and a witness. The show-up led to the offender being identified and charged with 1st Degree Kidnapping and Attempted Sexual Battery.
Due to Officer Kimrey's actions, training, and intuition, a dangerous offender was apprehended without delay. Officer Kimery is a dedicated officer and team member, and her actions are in the highest tradition of the Carrboro Police Department."
