Town Facility and Service Changes
- Town of Carrboro – Town offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26, and opening on a three-hour delay on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
- CHCCS schools and offices will be closed on Monday.
- Orange County - Orange County administrative offices will be closed on Monday.
- Chapel Hill Transit - No transit services on Monday.
What You Should Do Now
- Avoid unnecessary travel.
- Check on neighbors, especially seniors and those with medical needs.

- Avoid frozen pipes by keeping the heat at 55°, open cabinet doors, and let faucets drip. If pipes freeze, shut off water, thaw safely (no flames), then slowly turn water back on and check for leaks. Do not call 911 for frozen or burst pipes.
How the Town Responds
Public works departments often cannot effectively plow during an active ice storm because standard plowing equipment is designed to move loose snow, not to cut through or scrape off bonded ice. Public works crews pretreated primary town streets with brine and have continued to salt and sand key areas.
The town’s emergency management team has continued to coordinate town preparations, including scheduling additional staff to work as needed throughout the weather event.

Property and business owners are responsible for snow and ice removal on sidewalks in front of structures they own or occupy and for their parking lots and driveways, where snow may accumulate due to plowing.

An emergency shelter is open at Smith Middle School at 9201 Seawell School Road, in Chapel Hill. Orange County coordinates the opening of emergency shelters and cold weather shelters.
