Endangered Species Day


WHEREAS, many species in the United States and around the world are officially designated as at risk of extinction and thousands more also face a heightened rate of extinction; and 

WHEREAS, North Carolina is home to a diverse range of unique animals and plants, including several rare and endangered species; and

WHEREAS, there are currently sixty one federally threatened and endangered species known to occur in North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, the people of Carrboro recognize that a healthy environment is an integral part of Carrboro’s economy, community and culture; and

WHEREAS, we have a responsibility to our children and future generations to be good stewards of our environment and to leave behind a legacy of protecting endangered species and the special places they call home.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Lydia E. Lavelle, Mayor of the Town of Carrboro, North Carolina, do hereby proclaim Friday, May 19, 2017 as “Endangered Species Day” in the Town of Carrboro.
