Mayor Lavelle Proclaims March 8th Carrboro Women’s Day

Our country has a history of women speaking out for justice, from the early days of our country when First Lady Abigail Adams said, “If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation.”  More recently, Oprah Winfrey recognized Recy Taylor, the Mother of the “Me Too” movement, by saying, “For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men. But their time is up. We hope that Recy Taylor died knowing that her truth, like the truth of so many other women who were tormented in those years, are even now tormented, goes marching on.”  As Mayor, I urge all residents of Carrboro to consider how they might #PressForProgress in the coming year!
