APRIL 10, 2013

POLICE CHIEF – Police Department.  Full-time permanent.  The Town of Carrboro, North Carolina seeks a candidate for Chief of Police who demonstrates the passion and commitment to build bridges among members of a diverse community with rapidly changing and multiple priorities; and who has had a track record of sustainable community-oriented policing initiatives, development of department members for retention and succession planning, and collaborating with other departments to leverage scarce resources. Reporting to the Town Manager, the Chief of Police will lead a department of 39 sworn personnel and two civilian staff members who work in Uniform Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Community Services and Administrative Services. The position is open due to retirement.
The Town seeks a law enforcement leader with progressive law enforcement experience, including administrative and command work at the executive level; a BA/BS degree (Master’s degree highly preferred); and considerable law enforcement training. Must have current certification as a municipal or local government law enforcement officer by his/her respective state or with no more than one year break in full-time sworn service at time of appointment. Residency within 15 miles of the Town limits (straight line basis) is required within six months of hire date. Please note that North Carolina law does not recognize nor have a reciprocal relationship with Federal law enforcement certification.

The hiring range is $77,486- $98,795 depending upon qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits.

PROGRAM ASSISTANT – Police Department.  Part-time temporary. (19 hrs/wk).  Performs a variety of office assistant duties, including greeting visitors, answering telephone, maintaining files and completing special projects and reports. HS diploma, clerical and MS Office experience req. Pay Rate: $12/hour.  Bi-lingual applicants encouraged to apply.  Open until filled.

SUMMER DAY CAMP STAFF – Recreation & Parks Department (General Programs). Part-time temporary.  Kinderventures & Enrichment Camps.  (Director, Supervisors, Counselors, and  Inclusion Specialist). 20-40 hrs/wk depending on camp, camp session, and position. Experience working with youth and/or children with special needs, valid driver’s license and FA/CPR cert. preferred. Must have strong people, organizational and planning skills. Must be available June 3 – Aug 9. Pay rates: $9.80 – 12.80/hr depending on position. Open until filled.

FACILITY/ACTIVITY SUPERVISOR – Recreation & Parks Department (Facilities Division).   Part-time temporary.  Work hours vary according to the Century Center’s program schedule (on-call daytime); staff needed to cover day, occasional evening, weekend and/or holiday programs.  Position performs on-site supervision and/or implementation of recreation programs and serves as front line contact for the public.  Good communication skills are required.  Light custodial duties and lifting of 25 lbs on a regular basis.  Pay rate: $9.00/hour.
