SOLID WASTE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I – Public Works Department. Full-time permanent. Performs routine manual work in the collection of residential refuse, including emptying of roll-out containers and manual lifting of heavy items, i.e. furniture, appliances, limbs. Prolonged walking and working in adverse weather conditions required. High school diploma/GED required, as well as Class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes certification, or must be obtained within 45 days from date of hire. Subject to pre-employment drug screening. Salary range: $24,693-$38,275; excellent benefits. Application deadline: May 9, 2008.

POLICE OFFICER I – Police Department. Full-time permanent. Performs entry-level law enforcement work on assigned rotating shift. High school graduate or equivalent and possession of valid NC driver’s license required. NC Basic Law Enforcement Training certification required. Successful candidate must meet state and departmental requirements, including a comprehensive background investigation, drug screening, and medical and psychological examinations. Salary range: $34,898-$54,091; excellent benefits. Open until filled.

YOUTH BASEBALL UMPIRES – Recreation & Parks Department. (Athletics Division). March-June for games involving ages 6-15; umpiring experience and/or sound baseball/softball knowledge preferred; 4-10 games/week played Mon.-Fri. evenings and Saturdays. Pay rate: $14.50-$22.50/game, depending on league. Open until filled.

ADULT SOFTBALL OFFICIALS – Recreation & Parks Department. (Athletics Division). March-June. Officiating experience and/or sound softball knowledge preferred; 2-6 games/week on Tues. and Thurs. evenings, with Sun. afternoon make-ups. Pay rate: $19.50-$21.50/game. Flex schedule avail. Open until filled.

FACILITY/ACTIVITY SUPERVISORS – Recreation & Parks Department. (Athletics & General Programs). March–June; 6-24/hrs per week; week day, eve., and weekend hrs. Assist with special events, general & athletic programs. Rec. prog. exp. and knowledge preferred. Pay rate: $9.00/hour. Flex schedule avail. Open until filled.

SUMMER DAY CAMP STAFF – Recreation & Parks Department. (General Programs). Kinderventures & Enrichment Camps. (Director, Supervisors, Counselors, and Inclusion Specialist). 20-40 hrs/wk depending on camp, camp session, and position. Must be available June 9 – August 6. Experience working with youth and/or children with special needs, valid driver’s license and FA/CPR cert. preferred. Must have strong people, organizational and planning skills. Pay rates: $9.80 – 12.80/hr depending on position. Open until filled.
