Project: Smith Level Road Widening Project – NCDOT Project – Currently Under Construction

Project Description:   From Rock Haven Road to Morgan Creek.  The project entails the construction of bike lanes, sidewalks and turn lanes with a center median including a roundabout or traffic circle at the intersection of Rock Haven Road and Smith Level Road.

Status and Traffic Impact:  Under construction.  Estimated to be completed in November 2014. Motorist should anticipate travel delays due to periodic stoppage of traffic for construction activities. 

Project: South Columbia Street Widening Project – NCDOT – Currently Under Construction

Project Description: Construction entails roadway widening to include center turn lanes, bus pull-outs, sidewalks and bike lanes.

Status and Traffic Impact: The project began in November 2012 and is estimated to be completed by July 2014. Motorist can anticipate travel delays while construction work progresses. Both northbound and southbound travel lanes were opened in mid-August -2013, with side lane construction continuing along with alternating lane resurfacing.

Project: 300 E. Main St. – Hampton Inn Hotel – Private - Currently Under Construction.

Project Description: Work entails the construction of Phase 2 of the 300 E. Main project, including sidewalk renovations, driveway entrance, and re-surfacing of portions of E. Main St.

Status and Traffic Impact:   Motorist can anticipate travel delays with the Phase 2 construction which began the Fall of 2013.  Pedestrians will be re-routed to the connecting sidewalk network.

Project: Davie Rd Sidewalk Bond Project – Town of Carrboro – Completing Final Clean-up

Project Description:  Construction consists of installation of 5 foot wide concrete sidewalk on the east side of the street, including storm sewer from Jones Ferry Road to Fidelity Street.

Status and traffic impact: The sidewalk is completed with final landscaping and clean-up.  Road is open to vehicle traffic, however, there will likely be minor delays depending on the operations being performed.

Project: Roberson St. Sanitary Sewer - Town of Carrboro Project - Currently Under Construction

Project Description: The project consists of installation of sanitary sewer on Maple Ave. from Carr St. to Roberson and on Roberson from Maple to Sweet Bay.

Status and Traffic Impact:  This project is currently under construction.  Motorist should anticipate travel delays due to periodic stoppage of traffic for construction activities

Project: Jones Ferry Road Safety Improvements – NCDOT Project – Summer of 2014

Project description:  Lane reductions with installation of medians, bike lanes, and sidewalk. Install traffic signal at Davie Rd. with pedestrian signals and high visibility crosswalks.  Project limits are from just west of NC-54 eastbound on-ramp/off-ramp to approximately the eastern entrance of Ridgewood Apartments.

Status and traffic impact: Final construction plans are 90% complete.  Bid letting is planned for the spring of 2014 with construction tentatively expected to occur in the summer of 2014.
