Workshop Series: Art Therapy and Newcomers Workshop & Walk-Through
Thursday, May 9, 2019
This event is part of a monthly continuing education series run by the Art Therapy Institute.
Please join us on Thursday, May 9th, for a workshop exploring how expressive therapies (ET) are used within counseling with refugee and immigrant populations. This workshop is in conjunction with the Newcomers Art Show, opening on May 10th, which highlights the artwork and stories of over 200 refugees and immigrants living in the Triangle.
In this presentation, ATI staff will share a PowerPoint on the impact and uses of ET with newcomers in both school and community-based settings. Next, presenters will walk workshop attendees through the ATI art gallery, explaining specific ET directives displayed on the walls, and why these interventions were implemented. Finally, workshop attendees will have a chance to contribute to a collaborative art piece, to experience ET themselves.
