Damon Seils is the Board of Aldermen's liaison to the Transportation Advisory Board, the Safe Routes to School Implementation Committee, and the Greenways Commission. He is the Carrboro representative to the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization Board (on which he also serves as the chair), the Chapel Hill Transit Partners Committee, and the Orange County Partnership to End Homelessness. Before his election to the Board of Aldermen, he served as the chair of the Planning Board, as a member of the Greenways Commission, and as the chair of the Orange County Human Relations Commission. In his professional life, he works in the medical school at Duke University, where he is a communications specialist with a focus on the work of health services researchers who study the quality, costs, and ethics of health care delivery. Alderman Seils is also a longtime leader in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community at Duke, where has worked with students, employees, alumni/ae, and administrators to promote equity and inclusion for gender and sexual minority communities. A native of Texas, Alderman Seils was born in the Rio Grande Valley and was raised in Austin. He attended college and graduate school in Washington, DC, before moving to Carrboro.
