Mayor Lydia Lavelle has proclaimed Sept. 21-27 “Diaper Need Awareness Week” in the Town of Carrboro.
“I encourage residents of Carrboro to donate generously to diaper banks and diaper drives, maybe even host your own diaper drive or volunteer in some capacity to ensure that all in our community are provided with diapers and other products to meet their basic hygiene needs,” Mayor Lavelle said.

The National Diaper Bank Network reports that diapers cost $70 to $80 per month for each baby; 1 in 3 families struggle with diaper need; however, diapers cannot be obtained with food stamps, and other government programs do not recognize diapers as a basic need.
