On Friday, Oct. 30, at 9:25 p.m., members of the Carrboro Fire Rescue Department responded to the 300 block of Warren Court, in the South Orange Fire District, for the report of a kitchen fire.
Responding fire crews arrived within six minutes and found a ranch-style home with smoke and flames emitting from the kitchen windows. Fire crews immediately began fire attack and brought the fire under control within 15 minutes of their arrival. Fire crews also had to check the attic and void spaces due to fire penetrating into these areas. The fire was contained to the kitchen area, and the remainder of the home suffered smoke and heat damage. Initial damage estimates are approximately $85,000.
The lone occupant who was home at the time of the fire was transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation. There were no firefighter injuries due to the fire. The residence was deemed uninhabitable.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Orange County Fire Marshal’s office. Due to no fire hydrants being located in the neighborhood, Carrboro received assistance from White Cross, Orange Grove, and Chapel Hill Fire Departments. North Chatham Fire Department provided coverage to the Town of Carrboro for the duration of the fire.
