Forecasters predict that following a lull in precipitation, snow will develop this evening. Total snow accumulations are expected to be 1-2 inches. Plan on slippery road conditions. Slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road conditions for North Carolina may be found at DriveNC.gov.
Thursday (Jan. 20) Afternoon UPDATE -- A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 4 a.m. Saturday.
Forecasters predict the storm will arrive as mixed precipitation on Thursday (Jan. 20), followed by a round of snow on Friday night into Saturday. How much accumulation is still unclear. With temperatures at or below freezing for much of the weekend, melting won't begin until Sunday afternoon. If we have measurable snowfall, we could have treacherous roads for days. Plan to buy groceries and stay home by Thursday night.
Town of Carrboro and Orange County governments have announced they will operate on a two-hour delay for in-person, non-essential services on Friday, Jan. 21. Virtual and remote services will continue to operate under current conditions.
Chapel Hill Transit will delay service start time until 10 a.m. Friday.
