This study of NC 54 West between Old Fayetteville Road in Carrboro and I-85 in Graham is underway to develop a long-term vision for this corridor, including the NC 54 roadway itself and the surrounding communities. This vision is comprehensive, and seeks to address preservation of the area's character, economic opportunity and vitality, environmental sensitivity, and transportation improvements for all users (drivers, freight, pedestrians, bicyclists, etc.).

Press Release 1
The study responds to a 2015 proposal to improve NC 54 West from the existing two-lane corridor to a four-lane median divided road based on an anticipated need for increased capacity from Alamance County during peak commuting hours. Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (http://www.dchcmpo.org/ ) Board representatives requested a corridor study to gain a better understanding of the future capacity needs and the most appropriate improvements to address those needs, such as intersection improvements.
