Westwood Cemetery was established around 1933. Historical research funded by the The Preservation Society of Chapel Hill, published A Segregated Part of Heaven: The History of the West Chapel Hill Cemetery, suggests that Westwood may have operated as a segregated or whites-only cemetery until desegregation in the 1960s.
- The earliest recorded burial is that of Roger Davis in 1904
